Back to defend his title as MFC's Chef Throwdown Champion is Chef Katsuji Tanabe from Bravo TV's Top Chef! Tanabe is the chef and owner of MexiKosher Restaurant, the first authentic Kosher Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles and arguably the first of its kind in the entire United States. He recently expanded Mexikosher to the Upper West Side of New York City and soon plans to open Baranda in Los Angeles, a more upscale dining experience, named after his daughters Barbara and Miranda. This past July, the restless chef opened yet another restaurant in Chicago, named Barrio Chicago, which has already generated much acclaim and high regards from critics within one month of the restaurant's opening. After competing on Top Chef season 12 in Boston andTop Chef Mexico, Tanabe admits he's addicted to the rush of the competition and is eager to prove he has what it takes to bring home the title- Top Chef.
Chef Aaron J. Perez is the chef and owner of VaKA Burger, in Los Angeles, CA. Perez has worked at top Michelin-starred restaurants, including La Cachette, Rivera, and Providence and alongside noted chefs such as Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay and Cat Cora, Gordon Ramsey. Chef Aaron J most recently lended his culinary vision to the First Lady Michelle Obama, Elton John’s 20th Annual Academy Awards viewing party, George Lopez’s 13th Annual July 4th Celebration, and the Malibu Food & Wine Festival, among others. Perez has appeared on Food Network’s "Grill It", "Cutthroat Kitchen", the Cooking Channel's "Farmers Market Flip", MTV and local radio. Chef Aaron J. Perez is a graduate of the Le Cordon Bleu School of the Culinary Arts, a member of the American Culinary Federation, and National Culinary Judge for the NAACP.
